What to bring to your first new-home conversation.
You do not need every answer. Start with your goals, questions and a sense of place.

A thoughtful project begins with a clear sense of what matters. Before focusing on individual finishes or floor plans, take a step back and think about the life you want the space to support.
Tell the story of the home
Describe who the home is for and how you imagine using it. Consider daily routines, gatherings, work and quiet time. These details help explain why a certain room or connection between spaces matters to you.
Gather what you already know
Bring any site information, existing documents and reference images you have available. If there are gaps, write them down as questions. You can begin a useful conversation without pretending that every detail is already resolved.
Identify your priorities
Choose a few goals that you want to protect throughout the design process. These might include natural light, flexible living areas or a stronger connection to outdoor space. Explain the reasons behind them so design options can be assessed against your intentions.
Ask about the next step
Before the conversation ends, ask what information is needed next, what decisions are coming up and how the scope will be developed. Knowing the next step makes an ambitious project easier to approach one decision at a time.
A home should begin with the way you live, then take shape around it.
